Salary: $22.87 - $30.63 hourly

This is a part-time position, budgeted at 30 hours/week (.75 FTE). Benefits will be prorated.

Work week: Sunday, Monday, Thursday and Friday. Generally, this position will work 7:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m., but because this position acts as a lead for wildlife show presentations, assigned shifts will vary based on programming needs.

This position functions as a member of the wildlife show education and animal care team, and may also serve as a lead specialist for a designated project. Duties include responsibility for presenting and developing education programming, which may include providing tours, classroom programs, assemblies and leading the presentation of free-flight summer shows. This position also participates in and leads daily husbandry for the show collection, including animal training; overseeing and training volunteers, interns, and other staff; maintaining records relating to health, diet and behavior; and observing animal health and communicating with veterinary staff.

This position handles a variety of birds ranging in size from a kestrel to a bald eagle, and including large parrots. Must work hands-on with exotic and potentially dangerous animals. Participates in training animals for both education presentations and husbandry behaviors.

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in biology, zoology or a related field; two years of experience developing and conducting public presentations for general audiences; two years of experience working with a variety of animals in a zoo or similar setting with direct responsibility for the daily husbandry routine; or any combination of experience and education that provides the necessary skills, knowledge and ability to perform assigned tasks may be substituted.
