Sacramento Zoo is actively recruiting new animal care staff. Under general supervision, Sacramento Zoo keepers work in a dynamic, team-oriented environment to provide advanced care to a diverse animal collection.
Keepers provide daily care to animals and their enclosures; duties will include cleaning, feeding, exhibit maintenance, enrichment and operant conditioning. In addition, keepers are responsible for conducting observations, maintaining detailed behavioral, reproductive, and medical records. The Sacramento Zoo is committed to participation in many AZA conservation programs; keeper participation in these programs is strongly encouraged.
Keepers must be able to work closely with other departments to advance the zoo’s mission through participation in conservation initiatives, development and delivery of educational programs, interaction with zoo guests, staff and keeper-aide volunteers, and facilitation of research projects.

Strong oral and written communication skills are preferred, including both an ability to follow directions effectively, and keep comprehensive and accurate records.
