The Texas State Aquarium Internship is designed to give college students and recent graduates an opportunity to learn about the care and training of marine mammals. Interns will learn about the daily husbandry, training and maintaining of behavior and assist training staff in the care of bottlenose dolphins.

Essential Responsibilities

• Assist Dolphin Bay trainers with cleaning and maintenance of the Dolphin Bay area

• Assist with food preparations

• Learn about the care and training of marine mammals

• Dive exhibits for cleaning purposes

• Assist with daily public presentations

Requested Requirements

• Over the age of 18

• Must be comfortable working indoors and outdoors in a variety of weather conditions

• Be able to lift 50lbs

• Open water SCUBA certification

• Currently enrolled in, or recent graduate of a college or university

• Basic knowledge pertaining to marine mammals and/or birds

• Able to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing

• Ability to follow complex instructions provided both verbally and in writing

• Available for the entire internship Sept 2013-Dec 2013 40hrs/week including weekends
