The Lemur Conservation Foundation (LCF) is dedicated to the preservation and conservation of lemurs through captive breeding, non-invasive scientific research, education, and reintroduction. LCF is a 100-acre, non-public, AZA certified reserve located in Myakka City Florida.

The reserve is currently seeking a full-time Animal Care Technician who will focus on the veterinary care and husbandry of the collection while upholding our conservation mission. The Technician will be responsible for providing daily husbandry care including training, enrichment, commissary, horticulture, record keeping, purchasing and dosing medications, assisting with annual physicals, emergencies or surgical exams, treatment of ill/injured animals, routine fecal and urine exams, diagnostic testing, maintaining clinic supplies, and other duties as needed.


Applicants should have some previous veterinary technician and animal husbandry experience in a zoo and/or animal clinic setting. Experience with primates is preferred.

The successful candidate will be energetic, self-motivated, work well within a team atmosphere, and demonstrate good problem solving, organizational, and time management skills.

The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 35 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds with assistance when cleaning and maintaining animal housing and moving animals. The employee is expected to provide care during all kinds of weather conditions. This position may require that the individual be available or on-call 24 hours a day. Weekend, evening, and holiday work is required. All staff are required to have a TB test conducted annually.


This is a full-time position with opportunities for professional growth and development. Salary range is from $12,000 - $14,000 with a compensation package including staff housing adjacent to the Myakka City Lemur Reserve. Salary range is commensurate with experience.
