Fresno Chaffee Zoo is seeking to hire a knowledgeable, outgoing and guest-oriented full-time Education Curator to lead, motivate, and inspire our Education team and our entire staff. Responsibilities:
Under the direction of the CEO, the Education Curator oversees the management of Education Department including hiring, training, assigning and reviewing work, allocating personnel and coordinating work activities, and providing on-going opportunity for growth, development and enrichment. As well as providing leadership to staff, the Education Curator oversees and directs camp programs, volunteers and our Docent program. Actively contributes to interdepartmental committees and planning sessions.

Successful candidates contribute to a positive and cooperative environment with staff, volunteers and guests. Onsite programs and interpretation is an essential way to promote the mission of the Zoo and its affiliated organizations. As well as programs on grounds, the Education Curator serves as a spokesperson for the zoo to our community through media outlets and public appearances.

Requirements:
Minimum of 5 years experience in the field of Education with a variety of different ages and levels. Bachelor's degree (BA or BS) in Science or Education from an accredited college or university preferred; and two years related experience and/or supervising and coordinating staff; or an equivalent combination of education and experience required. Experience in an AZA facility is preferred. Requires a valid California driver’s license and good driving record. Excellent written and verbal communications skills are essential. Must be able to work weekdays, weekends, and holidays.
We prefer a strong background in the field of natural history, zoology, and/or biology. We are looking for a proven leader who can perform and motivate staff to perform under ambitious deadlines. We need a team player that has the ability to work collaboratively with employees, peers, volunteers and guest. Our expectation is that the Education Curator will be responsible for budgeting items, goal setting, employee/volunteer retention, strategic planning, safety concerns, and collaboration with other departments in the zoo.

Good physical condition: ability to lift a minimum of 30 lbs. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Vision capabilities required include close, distance and peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Interaction with guests and animals requires talking and hearing. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to wet or humid conditions (non-weather) and outdoor weather conditions. The employee is occasionally in direct contact with exotic animals and is occasionally exposed to work near moving mechanical parts; work in high, precarious places. The noise level in the work environment varies. Occasional loud noises from visitors, animals or equipment are experienced.
