The Oklahoma City Zoo is seeking a highly team oriented individual to join our marine mammal team. The Oklahoma City region enjoys a robust economy, a low cost of living, is centered among biologically rich area, and hosts a variety of academic and educational institutions.

The successful candidate must possess exceptional interpersonal skills and be comfortable working in a fast paced environment that propels an innovative sea lion demonstration and the zoo’s mission. The Noble Aquatic Center is a facility consisting of 534,000 gallons dedicated to marine mammals, a 1,800 seat stadium, and a diverse collection of more than 120 species of fish and aquatic invertebrate species in both freshwater and saltwater.

Responsibilities will include developing staff and volunteers to assure program potential and growth in performance excellence, participation in scientifically based conservation programs, and oversight of the area’s operant conditioning and enrichment program. Collaboration with numerous departments zoo wide including Life Support, Aquarists, Visitor Services, Public Relations, Education, Maintenance and Grounds is essential.

Candidates must have experience equivalent to five years full time animal care/animal husbandry work with marine mammals, at least one year of which involved supervisory or lead worker responsibilities. Also, a Bachelor's degree in Zoology, Animal Husbandry, Animal Science, or closely related field may substitute for two years of the required non-supervisory experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed in this job description. Must be SCUBA certified, willing to become certified within 6 months of hire, or demonstrate proficiency managing dive operations. This is a full-time position and selected candidate must have the ability to lift 50 pounds. Must possess or have the ability to obtain a valid Oklahoma motor vehicle operator's license and pass a Driver's History check to operate Zoo vehicles. Must successfully complete a pre-employment background check, a physical examination, and a drug test and have the ability to pass annual TB tests.

The salary is $16.12 per hr minimum to $20.15 per hr mid range with excellent benefits.
