Reports to Director and Senior Veterinarian. Responsible for emergency and routine medical care and preventive medicine for a diverse collection of aquatic and terrestrial animals, including internal medicine, surgery, anesthesia, radiology, and pathology. Assists in formulation of preventive medicine and dietary protocols. Maintains medical records and pathology records for specimens treated. Familiarity with MedARKS medical records program would be beneficial. Supervises Veterinary Technician and hospital animal keepers. Board-eligibility for either A.B.V.P (Avian) or A.C.Z.M desirable. Must be willing to work weekends and holidays. Requirements: DVM or VMD from an accredited School of Veterinary Medicine, and at least two years of post-doctoral experience with exotic animals, especially birds, primates, and reptiles; exotic animal internship or residency preferred. Also required are an ability to obtain a Texas Veterinary License, USDA certification, and DEA license. Valid driver’s license required, as is the ability to safely lift 60 lbs.
