Palm Beach Zoo is seeking an animal keeper to assist with the direct care of a diverse collection of mammals (including primates, marsupials, felids and other small mammals) and birds (including waterfowl, parrots, passerines and shore birds). This keeper will rotate through assigned sections to provide husbandry, monitor the health of the collection and maintain upkeep of enclosures. Specific tasks include feeding, cleaning, enrichment, animal training, observations, record keeping and capture/restraint.

Animal Keepers at Palm Beach Zoo engage visitors on a daily basis through formal and informal animal encounters. Palm Beach Zoo is seeking applicants that have a passion for conservation and a desire to engage and educate the public on conservation initiatives. The successful candidate will serve as a mentor to volunteers and interns in areas of husbandry, conservation and guest engagement. Applicants should possess excellent interpersonal and written communication skills, display a positive attitude, enjoy working on a team and have proficiency using Microsoft Office programs.

Qualifications:

A Bachelor’s degree in the biological sciences or a related field and a minimum of two years of experience in an AZA accredited facility is required, as well as experience with species in the zoo’s collection (see above). Must be physically able to stoop, bend, reach, climb, lift, carry or push at least 50 pounds in a south Florida climate. Must be able to work a schedule which will include weekends, holidays and special events.
