Discovery Center Fellow

The Fellow will present engaging formal and informal programming in the Discovery Center that furthers visitors' understanding of and interest in the natural and physical sciences and technology. The Discovery Center offers a wide variety of programming and attracts many young children, accompanied by their adult caregivers and older siblings. The Fellow will have the opportunity to discover the needs of these younger learners in several different situations. The Fellow will work with the Discovery Center staff to ensure the development, maintenance, and presentation of quality programming, including educational materials and activities, interpretations, demonstrations, exhibit components, and school programs. The Discovery Center also has a large crew of dedicated Volunteer Interpreters of all different ages, scientific backgrounds, and abilities. The Fellow will have the opportunity to work closely with this diverse group and learn how volunteers contribute to the museum experience.
• Facilitate 2-6 Field Trip Programs weekly October - April.
• Develop 3-4 Volunteer Briefings annually.
• Develop 1-2 educational activities or materials monthly.
• Present 3-5 demonstrations or interpretations weekly.
This position is temporary, full-time, 35 hours/week, working Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Satursdays 9am-5pm and Fridays 12pm-8pm. During the summer and school vacation weeks, the Fellow works an 11am-7pm schedule (Tuesday-Thursday and Saturday).
Program Manager, Discovery Center & Manager, Discovery Spaces
• Bachelors of Science or Arts preferred.
• Up to 6 months of informal education experience.
Non-Exempt (Hourly). Commensurate with experience.
