Job Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will be responsible for the daily care, feeding and safety of a variety of animals. This individual will observe the physical and behavioral condition of exotic and domestic animals by noting their appetite, physical appearance and activity and documenting this information in daily reports. Will prepare diets and feed and water animals according to regular schedules and will implement enrichment activities and training programs. Individual will clean and maintain buildings, cages and yards and perform related work as required. Will interact with patrons to answer questions and deliver presentations.

This individual will be required to work evenings, weekends and holidays. May be required to work 10:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. May through August.

Job Requirements:

Associate’s degree or completion of sixty (60) credit hours in Zoology, Biology, Animal Husbandry, Wildlife Management or related field combined with at least one year experience in exotic animal care. Must have knowledge of the principles and techniques of zoology, animal husbandry and operant conditioning and understand animal management practices as applied to a captive animal collection. Knowledge of cleaning methods and materials for animal exhibits and holding areas is required. Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, and the ability to work with individuals from a wide variety of cultural and socio-economic backgrounds are essential. Must have good organizational skills and a high regard for safety. Requires a valid, unrestricted Michigan driver’s license. Previous experience with all taxa is preferred. SCUBA certification and previous experience with aquarium systems preferred.


$16.30/hr. Full-time
