This is a newly created full time salaried position. The Assistant Curator-Programs is responsible for managing and conducting a wide variety of educational programs with particular emphasis on programming related to the soon-to-open SciQuarium. The SciQuarium is a 23,000 sq. ft. facility celebrating the wonders of aquatic environments and their inhabitants. The SciQuarium will be home to otters, fishing cats, penguins, rain forest inhabitants (birds, mammals, and reptiles), and hundreds of fish.
Minimum requirements are a four year degree in science, education, or a closely related field, and prior experience working in an instructional capacity (formal or informal). The successful applicant will have a demonstrated passion and aptitude for teaching, have a strong interest in science (particularly marine science), be adept at creating imaginative informal science learning opportunities, and enjoy working closely with people of all ages. This is a teaching/managing position that will train staff for fee-based programs. Candidates should also be well-organized, comfortable speaking to groups, and have a positive outgoing demeanor. Candidates must have excellent communication skills with public and great interpersonal skills with both entry level and senior Center staff.
The Assistant Curator-Programs will report to the Curator of Community Programs. A flexible schedule is required as weekend and evening availability will be necessary. The starting salary is $28,000-30,000 per year and is accompanied by a comprehensive benefit package. The Greensboro Science Center is a rapidly growing museum, zoological park, and aquarium, and is both AAM and AZA accredited.
