The ideal candidate must have an undergraduate degree in any of the science disciplines and experience in: teaching with reptiles, especially snakes, working as a naturalist or having worked in a natural history museum; writing nature programs coordinated with state standards (examples are to be presented with resume). Elementary classroom experience would be a bonus. Additionally, the candidate must have the ability to: successfully present educational content to adults and children; work comfortably and effectively with volunteers, peers, and subordinates; and assist the Vice-President for Creative Education with the development and coordination of public programming that creatively supports the Brookgreen mission of education about nature, history, and art for youths.

Responsibilities include teaching the nature programs for school field trips and Girl Scout programs; developing and writing new programs when necessary, assuring that programs remain aligned with current classroom standards; training and supervising volunteers who deliver programs that do not include the use of animals; working with the Wildlife Department when using or developing new programs including animals; serving as Program Manager for one or more volunteer-delivered programs, including but not limited to the annual “Dirt & Worms” and “Where the Trees Grow” programs; writing program script for and teaching portions of the annual “Gullah Gullah Days” program; serving as Director for Camp Brookgreen; and creating new activities periodically for the Children’s Discovery Room.
