HourlyPOSITION SUMMARY:Care for, observe and maintain a variety of fish and aquatic life within the City zoo; provide responsible assistance to the Aquarium Manager and perform a variety of tasks relative to the assigned area of responsibility.MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:Associate's degree from an accredited college or university or two (2) years of college-level course work in marine biology or related field, plus two (2) years aquarium operations experience. Related education and experience may be interchangeable on a year for year basis. Possession of an appropriate valid SCUBA diving certificate within (6) months from date of hire into position.ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:Position requires: Background check, Pre-employment physical, TB Test.PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES IN THE FOLLOWING AREAS:Basic anatomy, physiology and behavior of fish and invertebratesPrinciples and practices of SCUBA divingBasic procedures of an aquarium programSafe work practices utilized when working with fish and various aquatic lifeMaintain and care for a variety of fish within the assigned areaClean and maintain aquariumsPrepare diets and feed fish according to established guidelinesIdentify unusual fish behaviorObserve and detect unusual animal behaviorsMaintain accurate records on fish behaviorRespond to requests and inquiries from the general publicCommunicate clearly and conciselyTO APPLY: All applicants must submit, by expiration date, a City Application.
