Palm Beach Zoo is seeking a swing keeper to assist with the direct care of a diverse collection of birds, mammals and reptile species. The swing keeper will be assigned to exhibit and off exhibit areas to provide husbandry, monitor the health of the collection and provide upkeep of enclosures. Duties include feeding, cleaning, enrichment, animal training, observations, record keeping and capture/restraint.
Animal Keepers at Palm Beach Zoo engage visitors on a daily basis through formal and informal animal encounters. Palm Beach Zoo is seeking applicants that have a passion for conservation and a desire to engage and educate the public on conservation initiatives. The successful candidate may serve as a mentor to volunteers, interns and other staff in areas of husbandry and propagation, conservation and guest engagement. Applicants should possess excellent interpersonal and written communication skills, display a positive attitude, enjoy working on a team and have proficiency using Microsoft Office programs.
Associates or Bachelor’s degree in biological sciences or applicable field. Candidate must have a minimum of one year’s experience working, interning or volunteering in a zoological institution.
Appropriate experience may substitute for degree requirement. Must be physically able to stoop, bend, reach, climb, lift, carry or push at least 50 pounds in a south Florida climate. Must be able to work a schedule which includes weekends, holidays and special events. Salary and keeper level will be based on experience and education.
