Friends of the National Zoo, a nonprofit member organization dedicated to supporting the education, research, animal care, and sustainability mission of the Smithsonian’s National Zoological Park is seeking a Data Entry Specialist to receive, verify, and input inventory information from a variety of sources into a computer database in our warehouse/ merchandise department.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Receive and count stock items and record data in computer system

• Mark or tag stock items using identification tags or price stickers

• Enter inventory information into the database by using the software systems provided

• Run stock replenishment reports for all locations

• Verify inventory computation by comparing them with physical counts

• Verify accuracy of merchandise deliveries

• Maintain records of all incoming and outgoing shipments

• Examine and inspect stock items for defects and report any damage to supervisor

• Maintains OSHA safety standards

• Perform routine cleaning and maintenance duties

• Assist with general warehouse security

• Other duties as assigned


• Minimum age of 18 years or older

• High School Diploma or Equivalent

• Proficient in Microsoft Word

• Proficient in Microsoft Excel

• Excellent written and oral communication skills

• Must be able to work independently

• Must be able to move 25 pounds
