Volunteer Resources Coordinator

The volunteer resources coordinator ensures a smooth, cost effective and efficient operation of all volunteer programs that represent a balance of the needs of the institution with the needs of the volunteers. Recruits, orients and coordinates all volunteer activities, for both adult and teen volunteers. Acts as a liaison between the needs and goals of the volunteers and the needs and goals of the Zoo and creates a positive and productive atmosphere for all participants.

Essential Duties:

1.Coordinate with volunteer supported areas to understand staffing needs, volunteer positions, help identify assignments that provide meaningful work for volunteers and write position descriptions in consultation with staff as appropriate

2.Oversee the recruitment and retention of new volunteers and interns for the program

3.Orient volunteers to increase their understanding of Utah’s Hogle Zoo and the role and responsibilities of volunteers, and ensure they are given appropriate training to be successful in their position.

4.Serve as a role model to volunteers and staff by providing the highest quality customer service to both internal and external customers as well as Zoo staff.

5.Act as a neutral party representing volunteers/interns and paid staff on issues.

6.Identify and resolve a variety of situations as they pertain to volunteers. May include personnel disputes, behavior problems, misinformation, complaints, and /or unique problems

7.Maintain a positive atmosphere that provides satisfaction for volunteers/interns and paid Zoo staff.

8.Analyze and assess the success of volunteers/interns programs in meeting volunteer/intern and Zoo needs as well as oversee the assessment and improvement of the volunteer/intern training program.

9.Responsible for communications to keep volunteers/interns updated on Zoo goals, objectives, events, and all other relevant information.

10.Responsible for volunteer/intern recognition and incentive programs.

11.Responsible for data entry and management of records using Volgistics software. Keep and maintain accurate, confidential records on volunteers, including, but not limited to demographics, volunteer status and statistics.

12.Assist in the development and training of staff on volunteer/intern management within their departments.

13.Conduct regular evaluations, in conjunction with responsible staff, of all regular volunteers/interns associated with ongoing volunteer/intern programs.

14.Assist in development and tracking of volunteer/intern budget.

15.Assist the Education Department in achieving departmental goals with overflow tasks as time allows.

16.Implement sustainable practices in daily tasks whenever possible.

17.Ability to respond to new, unexpected and non-routine requests in an appropriate and timely manner including demonstrated flexibility to assist other Zoo departments with tasks as needed.

•B.A. or B.S. degree; science, education or human resources background preferred.

•Demonstrated ability to maintain a positive attitude in stressful situations required.

•Demonstrated ability to independently manage multiple projects, solve problems and meet deadlines in a cost-effective manner.

•Demonstrated ability to adhere to standard operating procedures including but not limited to safety protocols required.

•Establish and maintain positive working relationships with others, both internally and externally in support of Utah’s Hogle Zoo’s mission

•Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

•Excellent organizational skills.

•Excellent problem-solving abilities.

•Three to five years minimum experience working with youth and adults

•Computer skills including Microsoft Office, Word, PowerPoint and Excel.

•Knowledge of Volgistics software desired.

•Knowledge of training and/or education processes desired.

•Ability to work weekends and events as required.

•Continuing education classes regarding volunteer program administration desired

•Proof of negative TB screening prior to placement and annually thereafter required.
