The Sedgwick County Zoo is seeking a Curator of Horticulture.

Position Summary -

This individual supervises and directs the horticulture department. This includes all preventative maintenance and upkeep of the horticultural aspects of the 247 acres.

Job Qualifications –

Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Horticulture, Botany or related field. Three years experience in the care of plants and flowers and their use in landscaping, including supervisory and administrative experience. Background in ecology, plant physiology and range management is desirable or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

Essential Job Functions -

Develops annual budget. Coordinates monthly schedule and annual priorities for all projects on zoo grounds. Ensure all required ground maintenance is completed. Develops future improvement and new project plans including budget requirements. Responsible for the horticulture facilities and equipment. Supervises the operation of the horticulture department.

Work Environment –

Shared team office, outdoor exhibits, indoor exhibits, behind the scenes areas, coverage as required to supervise a 7-day per week operation.
