Department: Research & Veterinary Services (RAVS)Immediate Supervisor: Research Scientist Employment Classification: Full-time, Monday –Friday 9am-5pm. Job Summary: Demonstrate excellent representation of the aquarium at all times through a positive, can-do attitude and a team work focused work ethic. Provides clinical (approx. 40%) and research (approx..60%) lab technical support. Schedule will be flexible to meet the most immediate need, as directed by Supervisor, and on-call coverage during off-hours is expected. Laboratory duties include, but are not limited to: processing and analyzing animal clinical chemistries, hematology’s, and serological testing; maintenance of the medication and supply inventory ; chemical analyses utilizing HPLC and proximate analysis, equipment and laboratory maintenance; and assistance on special research projects or clinical procedures. Minimum Job Requirements: A BS or equivalent technical experience/degree required. A minimum of 2 years working in a laboratory setting desired. A familiarity with hematology and other clinical testing desired. Must be proficient in Microsoft Office. Must be able to work independently as well as part of a team, possess strong written and verbal communication skills, and have a high attention to detail, positive attitude and willingness to learn.Responsibilities & Essential Functions: • Assist veterinary and research staff in obtaining and processing clinical and research samples collected from Aquarium and stranded animals.• Perform appropriate clinical and research techniques in the laboratory unsupervised and with a high level of quality.• Order, stock, keep inventory of supplies for clinical and research labs including gases used for research, sample archive, and medical procedures.• Provide technical support for research projects, veterinary procedures or other special projects when needed including preparing reagents, obtaining supplies and equipment, and processing samples, literature searches, database entry and analyses.• Assist with mentorship of interns/externs/volunteers who are assisting/working in the laboratory.• Perform all other duties as assigned by supervisor.• Processing clinical & research sample from collection/stranded animals.• Technical support for research projects and veterinary procedures.• Lab and equipment management/maintenance.• Independent work in laboratory.Sea Research Foundation, Inc. is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer
