The Oregon Coast Aquarium is seeking applications for a full time Aquarist. The position responsibilities include all aspects of the care of the fish and invertebrate collection, as well as assisting with specimen collection, aquatic system maintenance, and interactions with Aquarium guests.

The ideal candidate will have 5 years working in a public aquarium as an aquarist, BS/BA in biology, marine biology, fisheries science or related field, an advanced SCUBA certification preferably, Rescue diver, and cold water diving experience is very desirable. Knowledge of safe boat handling skills is also desirable.

As an Aquarist the incumbent will provide for and supervise the husbandry of all fish and invertebrates in the collection to the best available methods in animal husbandry, nutrition, and medical treatment. Monitor exhibit water quality and perform analysis as necessary and appropriate. Maintain normal operation of all exhibit systems including filtration packages. Perform SCUBA diving as needed for specimen acquisition and exhibit maintenance. Report unusual condition or illnesses in the animals and assist in their treatment. Maintain written and computer records.

Knowledge of and ability to use computers and standard, commonly accepted computer programs is required. Ability to work under limited supervision, both independently and in a team environment is essential.

The job is physically demanding candidate must be able to lift 50 pounds, pass AAUS swim test within six months of start. Weather condition at on the Oregon Coast are extremely varied, incumbent must be able to work on wet, uneven surfaces, often in foul weather.

Position will be filled as Aquarist I, Aquarist II, or Senior Keeper depending on experience. Salary will be determined on experience.
