JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Minnesota Zoological Gardens is hiring an Temporary, full-time zookeeper position to work with the Tropics/Minnesota Trail exhibits.

Job Duties Include:

- Provide direct animal care to a specific portion of the Minnesota Zoo's

exotic and domestic animal collection;

- Observe animal behaviors;

- Prepare and feed animal diets;

- Provide information to visitors;

- Assist with medical procedures, animal enrichment and behavior modification

activities;

- Prepare and maintain detailed records;

- Maintain sanitary animal living conditions;

- Work as a team member and individually;

- Lift and carry up to 50 pounds.

*Working days and hours will depend on the needs of the department.

Job is contingent on a valid D driver license and background check.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Applicants must meet one of the following experience requirements:

(A) at least one year of experience as a full-time zookeeper in a zoo or aquarium; OR

(B) at least three years of experience in an established laboratory or field research program involving vertebrate animals and data collection; OR

(C) at least three years of responsible work experience in a laboratory animal colony or veterinary hospital that involves direct animal care and maintenance.

Experience must be within the last ten years and include all of the following responsibilities: observing animal behaviors, preparing and feeding animal diets, preparing and maintaining detailed animal records, and maintaining sanitary animal living conditions.

Must:

- be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds

- be team-oriented and able to work individually

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

- College degree (B.S. major or minor, or A.A.S.) in Biology, Zoology, Wildlife Management, Environmental Education, Ecology, or closely-related discipline

- Successful completion of an internship program in an AZA zoo
