Pathology Technician

Requirements and Competencies:

•Must be at least 18 years old

•Florida driver’s license, proof of insurance, and ability to meet Busch Gardens driving requirements

•1 to 2 years of experience with laboratory or animal-related work required

•Bachelor’s degree in a biology related field preferred

•Able to work without supervision

•Ability to work flexible hours including weekends and holidays

•Detail oriented and organized

•Strong written and verbal communication skills

•Able to use Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel

•Ability to lift/move up to 50 pounds

•Stand for prolonged periods of time

•Able to positively interact with park guests and co workers of all ages, different ethnic/cultural backgrounds, and individuals with special needs

Primary Responsibilities:

•Sample and report management

•Subgrossing (trimming) of pathology tissues

•Assist in and perform gross necropsy exams

•Track, deliver and pick up samples from histopathology lab

•Stock, clean and maintain necropsy room and trimming station in laboratory

•Assist in organization and shipping of samples for ancillary testing

•Establish and maintain a pathology image archive

•Assist in the management of the pathology database

•Data entry into medical records

•Facilitate pathology evaluations from affiliated facilities

•Assist in publication and project research and conduct literature searches

•Ensure excellent customer service by responding to customer requirements, expectations, and needs

•Involved in guest relations/interactions and media relations

•Involved in education of animal care staff, campers and preceptors

•Other related duties as assigned
