REQUIREMENTS:Must be at least 18 years of age. College degree in the Zoology or related field.  Available to work holidays, weekends and possibly some evenings. Must be self starter, able to work independently and as part of a team. Strong interpersonal skills.  Public speaking and contact experience required.  Ability to lift 75 lbs, work outdoors in all weather conditions, and on uneven terrain. 

Excellent oral and written communication skills. Computer experience preferred.  One year prior paid animal experience in a zoo setting.  Elephant care experience REQUIRED.  Protected Contact experience preferred.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:  Daily elephant care including but not limited to feeding, stall cleaning, foot and skin care, and training of 1.1 African Elephants within a Protected Contact Management System.

Prepares and provides recommended diets and fresh water to all animals daily.  Observes animals for changes in behavior and any signs of injury or illness.  Assists veterinarian with animal treatment and administers medications as prescribed.  Follows guidelines on safe handling, restraint, in accordance with current elephant management style.  Keeps accurate daily records.  Communicates (written and oral) effectively with co-workers, supervisors and guests.  Reports all safety concerns and issues immediately.

Provides necessary animal enrichment.  Performs daily educational presentations.  Responsible for maintenance of elephant care equipment.  Light construction and maintenance related to elephant care.
