Summer Zoo Camp Educator Internship

The Brandywine Zoo Education Department is seeking fun, mature and engaging educators for our seasonal full-time Zoo Camp Educator positions. These positions are paid through The Delaware State Park Internship Program. The Brandywine Zoo's Internships offer hands-on experience for individuals who want to explore a profession in Zoo Education. We're looking for people with great people skills (especially children!), self-starter, mature, energetic; positive; creative; fun; safe, conscientious; and a natural leader who gets along well with others.
QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants must be18 or older and working toward or already have a degree in Education, Recreation, Museum Studies, Communications, Animal Science, or other Biological Sciences. Must have an interest in working with the general public; especially children ages 4-13. Previous camp experience a plus.
DUTIES: Interns will be working with the Education Team to design, develop and implement lesson plans, materials, and evaluation tools for our Summer Zoo Camp program and in leading children ages 4-13 through our zoo-themed Zoo Camps. The Brandywine Zoo offers children the chance to spend a week at the zoo learning about animals, zoos, and wildlife conservation. Each week is filled with Zoo visits, live animal presentations, crafts, animal -related games, songs, stories, and learning projects. The intern will also work with adult and teen volunteers, live animals, and will help children learn about our natural environment in a non-traditional setting.
Other activities include:
• Assisting With Implementing Evaluation Tools for our Zoo Camp.
• Create Hands-On Activities, Games and Crafts
HOURS: Summer Zoo Camps run Monday – Friday from 7:45a.m.-5:30p.m. Candidates must be available for this full time frame.
SALARY: Stipend of $100/week paid through the Delaware State Park Intern Program. Housing may be available.
REQUIREMENTS: Must be 18 years of age or older, complete a term project during internship; must be able to work entire term, proof of negative TB test within the last 12 months; good physical condition, applicants should be able to stand for extended periods of time, carry up to 25lbs and participate in camp activities.
The Brandywine Zoo Education Department will work with the educational institution to provide academic credit to the student if required.
