The Wildlife Center Coordinator works in the Falcon Batchelor Bird of Prey Center, is the veterinarian’s primary medical support, and will work in a rehabilitation clinic and assist veterinarians and other animal husbandry staff in providing care to injured, sick and orphaned wildlife. Responsibilities include performing routine laboratory and clinical procedures, such as taking blood, dispensing and giving medication, and performing medical tests. This position works proactively to advance initiatives of the Department as overseen by the Curator. The Wildlife Center Coordinator will be familiar with a range of diagnostic equipment and is able to provide specialized and supportive care for injured or ill animals, specifically birds of prey. They are also responsible for recording an animal's history, as well as information on its weight, food intake, diet, behavior, and other symptoms, which is a necessary tool in diagnosing an animal's illness and developing a treatment plan. The ideal candidate should posses a variety of skills: organizational, wildlife management and animal husbandry, public education, coordinating personnel and volunteers. A creative thinker that can simultaneously manage the logistical side of the center such as purchasing and inventory control; and a strong ability to work effectively with various museum departments.
The WLC Coordinator must be committed and abide by the missions and objectives of the Miami Science Museum and the Wildlife Center.
· Bachelors Degree required, Veterinary Technician Certification (CVT) preferred
· Minimum 3 years experience in professional animal husbandry
· Extensive knowledge and experience working with birds of prey
