School Group Coordinator – Part-Time, Conservation, Education & Training (CET)/Education

This part-time position contributes to the success and mission of the Chicago Zoological Society by promoting innovation and excellence in conservation leadership and assisting with the administration of the Levels of Engagement (LOE) program to connect administrators, teachers, and students with the field of Science.
This part-time position will work closely with the Manager, School, Group, and Teacher Programs and the School Program Supervisor to initiate and align Centers of Science Excellence, other LOE components and grant programs to further the Society’s mission and Strategic Plan goals. Assist with the procurement of grants. Assist with establishing and meeting programmatic goals and outcomes, participation, alignment with mission, and learning. Evaluate Centers of Science Excellence and grant programs through observation, reports, surveys, and interaction with school and community partners. Maintain LOE and Center of Science Excellence databases. Work with Development Department in obtaining grant programs and completing all forms and information. Maintain relationships with grant participants through various ways including email, phone, letters and site visits. Establish partner schools within grant expectations and limitations. Respond to questions and concerns from grant participants and cooperating institutions through email, phone, letters, and site visits. Attend and supervise all grant events. Align educational outcomes for all programs with those of the Conservation, Education, and Training Group. Ensure programs are aligned with Chicago Zoological Society’s learning strategies. Teach Connections classes as needed. Identify new areas to integrate participants with other CET Group programs. Work with the Manager, School, Group, and Teacher Programs and the School Program Supervisor, in conjunction with Development Department staff, to prepare reports on relevant programs and to communicate and promote Connections and grant programs plan and provide progress to Trustees, Women’s Board, and governing members. Other related duties as assigned.
This part-time position requires a Bachelor’s degree in Education, Interpretation, Biology, or other related field, or equivalent combination of training and experience. Master’s degree in Education preferred. A genuine interest and passion for nature and animals with a proven track record of creating innovative programs to engage underserved audiences in conservation required. 3-4 years experience teaching in either formal (e.g., Chicago Public Schools) or informal education setting, working with a variety of ages and group sizes required. Excellent written and verbal skills and strong interpersonal skills required. Knowledge of general education principles and practices required. Must be flexible to adopt innovative teaching approaches. Excellent organizational, follow-through, communication, and customer service skills required. Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment. Must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with CZS staff, volunteers, and the public. Must be able to work as a member of a team, as well as independently. Must be proficient with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, and PowerPoint. Valid driver’s license required for Illinois residents within 90 days of hire; valid out-of-state license required for out-of-state residents. Experience and/or ability to work and interact effectively with a diverse, multicultural audience. Multilingual ability, Spanish fluency a plus.
