Maintenance Specialists perform a variety of semi-skilled mechanical work in the repair and maintenance of buildings and physical plants. Performs light construction and routine general repair work throughout the Zoo. TO APPLY - Please submit resume to firstname.lastname@example.org.RESPONSIBILITIES:•Performs inspections, preventative maintenance, lubrication and repairs on machinery such as pumps, boilers, air conditioning units, meters, air compressors, backhoes, plumbing, trucks and tractors.•Uses hand tools, power tools and special equipment. Repair, and maintain buildings’ physical plants and equipment.•Performs light construction duties such as site work, material organization, carpentry, painting, mechanical, minor electrical and plumbing work as a helper.•Reports unsafe conditions and unsafe equipment.•Keeps records of maintenance and repair work performed.•Other duties as assigned.Maintenance Specialists will be required to work occasional weekends, holidays, evenings, rotating schedules and beyond scheduled work hours. Staff may also provide crowd control if necessary during peak times. JOB REQUIREMENTS: EXPERIENCE:Two years of related experience required.Basic computer skills required Strong interpersonal skills Valid Texas Drivers' License or the ability to obtain oneKNOWLEDGE:High School diploma or GED is required. Specialized training in principles, procedures, practices, routines or techniques in a specific area or trade which might normally be acquired through up to 18 months of education or training beyond the high school level is required. SKILLS: PHYSICAL EFFORT:Maintenance Specialists require excellent hand/eye co-ordination and the ability to work outdoors for long periods of time. The position involves standing for long periods of time. It may also involve considerable physical exertion, such as extensive walking, bending, stooping and regular lifting of heavy objects (up to 80 pounds) on a highly frequent basis and/or assuming awkward positions for long periods of time.WORK ENVIRONMENT:This position requires employees to work outdoors 75% of the day. There are routine exposures to significant levels of heat, cold, moisture and air pollution. The position may involve periodic exposure to chemical substances and physical trauma of a minor nature such as cuts, bruises and minor burns. Comfortable in supervised situations and close proximity of all types of animals.PUBLIC CONTACT:Heavy public contact is required, involving considerable interpersonal skill, extensive interaction with guests; intermittent interaction with members, donors and the media. A high degree of appreciation of Guest Service is necessary.
