Zoo Miami is looking for a bird keeper to work with a diverse collection of birds primarily in a brooder/hatchery situation. Knowledge of incubation and brooder skill is a plus. The section covers our brooder/hatchery, 40 small off exhibit breeding and holding pens, some larger pens for birds like cranes, storks and hornbills, and birds on mixed exhibits. You would be responsible for all aspects of animal care including cleaning, feeding, medicating, behavioral observations, enrichment, exhibit maintenance, and record keeping, etc…You would be required to work in a team environment and you must have good communication skills.We require 1-year experience working with exotic animals (a focus on bird husbandry is preferred), a high school diploma or a GED. College course work in zoology, biology or a related field may be substituted for the required experience on a month-to-month basis. You must be able to obtain and maintain a valid FL driver's license within one year of employment. . You must be able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs. Physical exam and drug/alcohol testing is required. You would be working varied schedule including weekends and holidays. The salary range is $28,500 to 43,800/year.
