HOURS: This is a one year traineeship, anticipated to begin June 18, 2013. Minimum 40 hours per week; hours and days per week may vary. This position is a salaried overtime exempt position.
CLASSIFICATION: This position is classified post-doctoral veterinary trainee position and is not eligible for health benefits or paid leave. Enrollment in the WA state retirement system may be mandatory. This position is an at-will position with no written or implied contractual agreement.
Participate in clinical rounds, patient care, medical record keeping and communicating with animal care and curatorial staff regarding ongoing cases and upcoming procedures. Rotate in emergency and weekend coverage for the Veterinary Department. Provide staff education, including at least two zoo-wide presentations on topics pertinent to the animal collection and participation in journal article reviews. Submit at least one manuscript for publication on completion of the internship. Provide veterinary care of up to 50 red wolves housed at an off-site breeding facility and provide occasional care for stranded marine mammals in cooperation with the Washington State Department of Fish & Wildlife. Participate in the medical management of free-ranging North American hoof stock and other native wildlife through a rotation at our sister park, Northwest Trek. Other duties as assigned.
Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (D.V.M.) or equivalent degree required.
1 year clinical experience preferred and demonstrate a strong interest in zoological medicine.
The successful candidate is required to obtain veterinary licensure in Washington State.
Valid Washington driver's license.
Obtain a valid First Aid and CPR Card within the probationary period.

Employment is subject to a national or Washington State Patrol background inquiry pursuant to RCW 43.43.832
