Part-Time Animal Trainer

The Oklahoma City Zoo is looking for an enthusiastic individual to join the animal training team. Primary responsibilities, under the direct supervision of the Training Supervisor and other area staff, will include assisting the team with daily departmental tasks such as maintaining cleanliness of animal habitats through pool maintenance (including diving with SCUBA), upkeep of associated logs and records, and cleaning of and diet prep for our collection of Harbor Seals, California Sea Lions, and a variety of parrots. Tasks may also include feeding of our collection and assisting in the production of the zoo’s seasonal educational show. Must have the ability to multitask, possess strong personal communication skills, demonstrate self-motivation and critical thinking skills, display a positive attitude and be comfortable working with a small team in a fast-paced environment. Preference will be given to candidates with SCUBA certification. General knowledge of filtration systems and water quality is preferred, as is prior experience in animal care/animal husbandry and operant conditioning. Must have the ability to lift 50 pounds and flexibility to work a variable schedule including weekends and holidays as scheduled. This position is 32 hours per week.
