It is an exciting time to join this dynamic, advancing, world-class organization.General ResponsibilitiesThe Director of Marketing and Communications is responsible for earned income activities (attendance, membership, retail, event rentals), for general institutional positioning and awareness, and for strategic messaging to targeted audiences. Through media communications, marketing strategies, and relationship building with the education and business communities, the position will leverage our successes over the past five years and make our value to the broader public as well as to the fields of education and business more visible and understood. The Director of Marketing and Communications works closely with the Director of Development to tell CuriOdyssey’s story in a comprehensive and compelling way that generates excitement and resources for the organization to deliver its vital work. In general, the position works closely with a dynamic, engaged, diverse, and collaborative staff.Reports to: Executive DirectorDirect supervision: Guest Services Manager, Membership Manager, Marketing ManagerIndirect supervision: Guest Services Associates (5 – 8), WebsitePrimary Responsibilities:• Marketing and Communications: Oversight, development and review of all marketing collateral to ensure accuracy and cohesive branding. Provide communications and marketing support for all CuriOdyssey’s programs.• Revenue Generation: Oversee admissions, visitor marketing and advertising, membership, facility rentals, guest services, retail operations, and help facilitate special events, which also drive attendance revenue. Oversee general corporate sponsorships in close coordination with development.• Media Relations: Development and oversight of a comprehensive media and public relations strategy. Support the Executive Director in external affairs as needed.• Planning and Monitoring: Develop and oversee annual marketing and public relations plans and department budgets with key metrics to measure and track performance.• Administration: Work closely with the Executive Director, Board and Director of Development to develop effective and strategic communications strategies. Work with senior management team on all aspects of museum and zoo administration and strategic planning. Oversight and development of annual budget for this department. Fiscal year is October – September. Job Qualifications:• Master’s Degree in business, marketing, communications, public relations or related field preferred. • 5 – 7 years of management experience desired, preferably some of which is in the not-for-profit field.• Highly organized and detail oriented with the ability to work independently, oversee and prioritize multiple projects in a fast paced environment.• Must be able to jump in and roll up sleeves when needed.Demonstrated success and deep familiarity with: • Effective representation of employer both internally and externally.• Media relations and marketing campaigns.• Desktop publishing applications; MS Office.• Identification of and obtaining of new mission-compatible markets.• Motivating and influencing others to reach ambitious goals; success mobilizing board of trustees and high-level volunteers.• Working collaboratively in a dynamic staff environment. • Superior written and verbal communication skills—particularly creative “pop-out” language.Compensation and Benefits:• Full-time, exempt• Compensation: competitive, commensurate with skills and experience• Benefits include: individual medical, dental, life and vision insurance, 403(b) retirement plan, museum membershipApplication Process: We are accepting a focused cover letter and resume, and a minimum of 3 references.
