Responsibilities: The Saint Louis Zoo is seeking applicants for the position of Staff Veterinarian. The position is one of two Staff Veterinarians reporting directly to the Director of Animal Health, and is part of a team that also includes a veterinary pathologist (Dipl. ACVP), a hospital manager, three Animal Health technicians, a quarantine specialist and an administrative assistant. The veterinarian will assist in the care and preventive medicine programs for the Zoo’s taxonomically diverse collection, and the training of veterinary residents in the ACZM-approved joint residency program in Zoological Medicine between the Saint Louis Zoo and the University of Missouri’s College of Veterinary Medicine. Duties will include, but will not be limited to, clinical medicine and diagnostic services, preventive medicine, quarantine and pre-shipment testing, and resident and veterinary student training. In addition to clinical responsibilities working directly with the Animal Care staff of the Zoo (including curators and a staff nutritionist), the veterinarian will be expected to be a part of internal research and conservation activities and be expected to support and develop partnerships with the Saint Louis Zoo’s WildCare Institute, the Institute for Conservation Medicine and the Zoo’s Research Department, as well as external collaborative initiatives. Qualifications: Candidate must be a licensed veterinarian in the United States, and able to obtain a Missouri veterinary license and USDA accreditation within 6 months of employment. Board-eligibility or Diplomate status in the American College of Zoological Medicine is desired. The successful candidate will be required to submit to a criminal background check and drug test.
