*Position will function as Aquarist at the NC Aquarium at Pine Knoll Shores* SALARY: $32,001-$33,466. DESCRIPTION OF WORK: This position reports directly to the Husbandry Curator and is responsible for the daily care of all animals in the assigned display(s), holding and quarantine systems and maintains life support systems as well as the aesthetics of the display(s). Primary duties include: Determining individual animal nutritional needs, securing, culturing, preparing and feeding all animals under your care; Maintaining and growing the aquatic animal collection; Maintaining water chemistry to all assigned systems; Recognizing symptoms of disease and poor animal health, and administering appropriate treatments; Acquisition, including collecting of new specimens for display; Designing, building, and maintaining life support systems; Designing and creating new aquarium exhibits; Record keeping with ZIMS database systems; Conducting SCUBA assisted diving to clean tanks, perform educational programs and collect specimens; Must be able to lift and carry 50 pounds; Weekend, evening and holiday work required. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Demonstrated experience managing captive populations of fish, invertebrates, and reptiles, in a public Aquarium, Zoo or Museum setting; Demonstrated experience maintaining life support systems and associated water chemistry at a public Aquarium, Zoo or Museum; SCUBA certification from a nationally recognized organization. TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Graduation from a four-year college or university with a major in Biology, Zoology, Botany or other natural science curriculum related to the area of assignment and one year of experience in a natural science field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
