Position Summary: Oversees, develops and manages all activities related to Tampa’s Lowry Park Zoo’s (TLPZ) dive program. Responsible, with the Dive Safety Board, for developing and enforcing policies and procedures in accordance with OSHA and AAUS guidelines that ensure the safety of the volunteers and staff. Acquires tests and maintains dive-related equipment under the auspices of the TLPZ’s dive program. Supervises activities related to TLPZ’s dive program. Schedules, supervises and evaluates all volunteer and staff divers. Individual is primarily responsible for the dive locker equipment, maintaining dive safety office inventory and accurate gear maintenance records. Conducts all training activities related to Tampa’s Lowry Park Zoo Dive Program. This includes exhibit diver training, certification upgrades for staff divers, CPR, first aid and O2 administration training. Works with Assistant Care Managers and Curators to ensure safety programs related to dive activities are implemented and followed.

Essential Functions (Including, but not limited to):

•Responsible for the management and safety of all Tampa’s Lowry Park Zoo’s Dive team, including both staff and volunteer divers.

•Develops and implements all TLPZ’s diving policies, procedures and protocols to comply with OSHA/AAUS.

•Conducts all training of volunteer and staff divers.

•Responsible for maintaining divers training records.

•Responsible for certification upgrades for staff.

•Works with husbandry staff to maintains and coordinates daily dive schedules for staff.

•Maintains all dive equipment, maintenance records, and inventories.

•Maintains and repairs all dive equipment.

•Maintains maintenance records and dive locker inventories.

•May serve as TEAM Leader for exhibit cleaning dive operations.

•Serves as Dive Supervisor.

•Assist with purchases and replacement of dive equipment.

•Monitors, maintains and ensures availability and readiness of emergency/first aid equipment and supplies at all dive locations.

•Responsible for the dive program administrative duties.

•Performs annual review/update of dive manual.

Education/Experience:

•High school diploma or GED, an AA degree is preferred.

•Certified as an instructor from a nationally recognized scuba certification agency

•Certified CPR, First Aid and Oxygen administration instructor through a nationally recognized training agency

•Familiarity with American Academy of Underwater Sciences Scientific Diving programs a plus

•Experience with dive programs preferably public programs in an aquarium, zoo or related field

•Certification and experience in scuba/hookah equipment repair

Physical Requirements:

•Ability to lift up to 65 pounds without difficulty

•Ability to work in weather conditions typical to west central Florida

•Ability to traverse zoo grounds on foot or in zoo vehicle

•Ability to bend, lift, rake, sweep, and shovel without difficulty

•Possess visual acuity appropriate for animal care and general safety practices

•Unrestricted SCUBA diving as required

•Exposure to blood borne pathogens
