Job Title: Animal Exhibit Interpreter, (seasonal, part time)

Reports To: Director of Guest Services

Summary: The prime focus of this position is to enthusiastically educate and entertain our guests on the specific behaviors and conservation status of the animal on exhibit. Guest satisfaction is paramount to our success, and this position will act as our direct line of communication between the Zoo and our guests. The Animal Exhibit Interpreter is responsible to complete light daily husbandry duties for the Zoo’s interactive exhibit animals.


• Provide exceptional guest service at all times by:

o Hosting each guest experience by providing a warm welcome, and a hardy thank you for visiting Lehigh Valley Zoo

o Being polite and informative

o Having a friendly and outgoing attitude

o Maintaining familiarity of the Zoo’s history, current accomplishments and future goals

• Educate guests in interactive exhibits:

o Species natural history

o Species behavior traits

o Unique Conservation programs

o Perform interactive activities to engage guests

o Marketing materials as assigned

• Observe, evaluate and report animal behavior and conditions

o Provide daily report to the Zoo’s General Curator

• Care of interactive exhibit areas

o Daily husbandry as assigned

o Daily light maintenance to ensure exhibit cleanliness

o Ensure daily animal enrichments are completed as assigned

• Competent handling of cash

• Housekeeping the Zoo

• Maintain a safe work environment

• Ensure guest and animal safety in all interactive exhibits

• Perform all other duties as assigned.


• Demonstrate a familiarity with natural history and animal behavior

• Good oral and written communication skills, excellent interpersonal skills

• Proven organizational abilities; yet able to improvise as needed

• Mandatory weekends & summer holidays, with minimal evening assignments

• Able to follow written and oral instructions

• Must demonstrate the ability to exercise good judgment

• Must apply safety precautions to all assigned duties

• Must posses a valid driver’s license
