SUMMARY STATEMENT: Assist the other Interpretation staff in providing hands-on, inquiry and design-based learning experiences for Museum visitors in the temporary exhibits Shipwreck: Pirates and Treasure and Design Zone. Help visitors explore the exhibits by providing guidance with exhibit components and offering access to tools and props that will enhance their experience and help them make meaningful connections. Engage visitors in countertop investigations that encourage them to use the skills of scientific inquiry, engineering design, and mathematics. Assist in the daily operation of the Interpreter Program including training, supervising, and mentoring of the volunteers. RESPONSIBILITIES: • Spend up to 6 hrs/day interpreting in the exhibit gallery. • Learn a minimum of 3 interpretations for each month. • Assist in the training and support of a diverse crew of up to 5 volunteers per shift. WORK SCHEDULE: This position is Temporary, Part-Time, 2 days/week from 9:15am-4:15pm, through April 7, 2013. REPORTS TO: Director, Visitor Programs MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: • Bachelor's Degree preferred, including coursework in a field of Natural Science, Archaeology, or engineering. • More than 6 months of informal education experience. STARTING SALARY: Non-Exempt (Hourly). Commensurate with experience.
