Summer Diver Program Assistant - Fishes, Aquatic Reptiles and Aquatic Invertebrates

Duties: Assist in the coordination of the daily dive program in Fishes, Aquatic Reptiles, and Aquatic Invertebrate section of the Exhibits Department. Responsibilities include but are not limited to, assisting in maintenance of Aquarium SCUBA equipment, filling SCUBA tanks, monitoring volunteer divers during programs, participating in daily dive programs as needed, assisting in other in-water dive duties as needed and additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications: Current student or candidate with previous college level course work in biology, marine science, education (informal science education), or related field. Applicant should have a strong career interest in fish-invertebrate husbandry, marine science, public aquarium management, SCUBA diving technology, etc. Field and laboratory research experiences a plus. SCUBA certification open water level with at least 10 open water dives (non-certification dives) logged required.

Requirements: Intern must supply own SCUBA mask, maintain a daily journal and attend regular meetings with the Curator. At the conclusion the intern is required to research, develop and deliver a PowerPoint presentation on a topic related to his or her experience. A minimum of 4 days a week; 8 hours/day is required. This may include weekends and holidays. Priority will be given to applicants that can complete their internship between May 15 and September 10; for a minimum of 10 weeks.
