Manager of Nature Works. Full time benefited position. $32,000 Annual Salary. Responsible for the overall supervision and management of the Nature Works exhibit. This includes management of all physical and support systems within the exhibit, animal husbandry and medical procedures for a wide variety of species, experience with aquaria, terraria, habitat and quarantine systems, a thorough knowledge of legal and ethical obligations to animals and visitors, and a thorough knowledge of local, state and federal laws and regulations regarding animal exhibition and care. This individual will also be responsible for the overall research and development of educational programs and activities.

Essential Job Functions:
• Responsible for animal care, maintaining records and permits related to state and federal compliance with all regulations regarding live animals in OSC care.
• Determines donations, specimen procurement, specimen placement.
• Exhibit research and development.
• Work with Senior Director of Visitor Experience to research, develop and implement educational programs, demonstrations and related visitor activities.
• Scheduling of employees and volunteers and.
• Determines and supervises overall husbandry in all areas where living specimens are used in OSC.
• Implements collection management within the scope of OSC Collections Policy and the American Association of Museums Professional Standards.
• Works with consulting veterinarian to develop and administer proper medical care of living collection.
• Train NatureWorks staff and volunteers on husbandry and OSC procedures.
• Assists in preparation of short and long range plans for the Nature Works Exhibit.
• Acts as liaison with community partners such as: environmental groups, political entities, educational entities, and regulatory agencies.
• Participates in budget development and administers operating budget for Nature Works.
• Repairs and maintains animal support systems, filtration systems and other mechanical equipment.
• Some nighttime and weekend work required.

Qualifications and Education Requirements:
Bachelor’s Degree required
Minimum of three to five years animal care experience in a zoo, aquarium or museum setting. A combination of relevant experience and education will be considered.

Preferred Skills:
• Excellent working knowledge of closed system filtration.
• Experience in educational program development and delivery.
• Thorough knowledge of local, state, and federal wildlife regulations, policies and permit requirements.
• Knowledge of repair, maintenance and construction of living specimen holding areas, exhibits and filtration systems.
• Broad range of knowledge of the wildlife and ecosystems on Florida.
• Excellent management skills, organized and self-directed.
• SCUBA certification.
• Exhibit design and construction using broad range of materials.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
• Must be able to lift objects of 50-75 pounds.
• Ability to climb ladders and accomplish tasks on suspended platforms.
• Must be able to snorkel while cleaning exhibits for extended times.
