Seasonal Keeper - Birds/Butterflies

The Indianapolis Zoo is seeking applicants for Seasonal Keepers – Birds/Butterflies. Positions will be working with a variety of species, conducting formal and informal presentation to the general public throughout the day, as well as helping with special projects. Bird/butterfly experience is preferred, but not required. This position pays $8.00 per hour.

Applicants must display a professional attitude and appearance to both visitors and co-workers. Position will require a great deal of interaction with the general public, requiring good public speaking skills and the ability to provide outstanding customer service. Must be temperamentally suited to work with the public as well as a variety of bird/butterfly species.

Will perform manual work involving the care and maintenance of the animals and exhibits under his/her care. Directly responsible for the health and well being of the collections assigned to his/her care. Must be safety-oriented and adhere to safety protocols.

Further the position requires the following:

• Follow all Policies and Procedures of the Indianapolis Zoo

• Complete daily and weekly reports

• Participate in chats, feeds and behind the scene tours.

Experience: Experience working in animal care, preferably with birds/butterflies strongly preferred. Must have strong observational skills. Must be team oriented with excellent communication skills. Will be required to work mandatory overtime, weekends and holidays.

Education: High school diploma or equivalent is required. Bachelor degree from an accredited college/university in life sciences strongly preferred.
