The Aviculturist is responsible for all aspects of animal care of the Parakeet Pointe’ Exhibit, and water quality analysis for the aquatic exhibits. Daily responsibilities include, but are not limited to, food preparation, exhibit cleaning, record keeping, animal behavior observations and enrichment activities, as well as performing tests on aquarium water to ensure healthy aquatic environments. Employees are required to participate in public presentations, special projects and other related/associated duties as required. Employees must maintain order of work areas, report for overtime when asked and work after hour's functions as required. This position places special emphasis on providing the best possible visitor experience at every opportunity. Aquarist skills are preferred to help with weekend/holiday coverage. Candidate must exhibit good judgment and decision making skills with regard to established procedures as well as new situations. Must have the ability to establish and maintain efficient working relationships with other employees and departments, as well as work independently. Proven ability to lift a minimum of 80 lbs., stoop, bend, climb and stand for long periods. Ability to work flexible hours including weekends, evenings, and/or holidays.
