Summary

As a full-time dome keeper, you will be responsible for the care and well-being of a large multi-species collection under the world's largest indoor desert. Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to, daily husbandry and care associated with feeding and cleaning animal enclosures. Must be willing to work in a fast-paced and highly changing environment. Keepers must be able to lift 50 pounds routinely. Hours will vary including one or more late shifts based on rotation. Candidate will be expected to work weekends and holidays.

Duties and Responsibilities

Animal collection includes mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, and fish.

Diet preparation, building and grounds upkeep, animal enrichment, observations, record keeping, routine animal medications, public interaction and other duties as directed by the Area Supervisor or Staff.

Maintain the functions of an indoor desert, including some life support systems.

Work with interns, volunteers, and student shadows, including tours and talks.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities required

Require strong communication and organizational skills, including attention to detail.

Knowledge of a safe working environment for animal collection, employees, and visitors.

Ability to work independently and as a team.

Animal husbandry knowledge

Operant conditioning experience

Animal handling and capturing skills

Ability to speak publicly to large and small groups.

Basic knowledge of tools, carpentry, and plumbing is beneficial.

Working conditions and physical effort

Must be able to lift 50 pounds routinely

Highly physical work environment.

Varying temperatures and climates.

High School Graduate or equivalent.

Must have a Valid State Driver's License.
