We're seeking an intern who is interested in learning about teaching children and working hands-on with a variety of non-releasable wild animals. Intern will assist with animal husbandry, training and enrichment, as well as being a part of our teaching team.

The intern will participate in presenting assemblies and classes as well as learn to appropriately and safely handle animals for educational programs. Our nature of science school assembly program has a rich 32 year history of teaching 300,000 students and adults in the greater San Francisco Bay Area each year.

This intern must be a positive, motivated, experienced, adaptable and energetic individual with strong interpersonal skills and a desire to work as part of a dedicated team that is making positive changes in the community. Public speaking, communication and listening skills are essential. The intern must be able to take and follow directions as well as demonstrate initiative and responsibility.

This is a 6-month position that will give the intern an opportunity to learn valuable career-related skills. Upon successful completion of the internship, there may be a possibility-but no guarantee-of being offered employment. A college degree and animal handling/husbandry experience is required. Previous teaching in a formal or informal education setting is preferred.

Physical requirements: ability to lift or move up to 50 pounds; have the ability to work outdoors while maintaining wildlife habitats so may experience extreme weather conditions; expected to tolerate cleaning liquids, dust, animal fur/dander and a variety of substrates-including hay/straw. Valid driver’s license with an acceptable safety record and a background check is required.
