A Research Associate works in the team responsible for the daily husbandry of the captive, endangered birds at the Maui Bird Conservation Center, Hawaii. Primary duties include: food preparation and provision; cleaning, perching and maintaining aviaries; observing and recording reproductive and social behaviors; managing reproduction in breeding pairs; incubation and hand-rearing; assisting in veterinary care. Additional duties include: field-based husbandry and post-release monitoring; facility, equipment and grounds maintenance; record-keeping and report-writing; presenting tours to visiting groups and schools; assisting in the administration of the program and other related tasks.

Representative qualifications include Bachelor's degree in biological science or a related field, or equivalent specialized training; experience with captive husbandry and propagation of birds; record-keeping and data management skills; ability to use computer programs for word processing and spreadsheets; ability to collect biological samples; communication and teamwork skills; ability to prepare and make presentations; physically fit and able to lift 50lbs; experience of fieldwork is an additional benefit.
