Under the direction of our Assistant Curator interns will research species specific animal enrichment, observe animal training, enter and record animal data, assist keepers with diet prep and guest interaction, and learn the general workings of an animal enrichment and behavior training program. Interns will also be exposed to registrar duties such as permitting, data entry, and acquisitions/dispositions.


Applicant must be at least 18 years old and able to pass a background check.

Be able to lift at least 70 lbs.

Have a tetanus shot and negative tb test.

Must be enrolled in college and supply RHWA with a letter of intent from a professor

A one-time fee of $30 is required to offset the cost of the intern uniform shirt, application processing, nametag and training materials.


Most interns will follow the college calendar (Spring, Summer, Fall semesters) and will commit to a 8-10 week program. Schedules will be determined on an individual basis with preference given to those available Monday through Friday between the hours 7:00a.m.-5:00 p.m. These hours are subject to intern availability during the school year.

College credit

We will work with your college/university to offer you college credit however it is your responsibility to arrange this. We will provide any documentation your school requires for credit hours.
