The Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo is currently taking applications for a Hospital Keeper. The FWCZ houses over 1200 animals representing over 200 species. The Hospital Keeper will report directly to the Veterinarian and be an integral part of the veterinary team, consisting of one Veterinary Intern, two full-time Veterinary Technicians, one part-time Behavior Management Coordinator, and one full-time Registrar. The Hospital Keeper cares for all animals housed in the zoo’s vet hospital holding areas, as well as a new >4000 square foot quarantine building currently under construction. The position will require work with a wide range of species including amphibians, reptiles, small and large birds, primates, great apes, small and large carnivores, hoofstock, etc. A full job description is available upon request. The position is a full-time position requiring at least 40 hrs/wk. Days off are Saturday/Sunday. The position does occasionally require work on days off, weekends, and holidays. The successful candidate should have a high degree of organization, attention to detail, the ability to adapt to an ever-changing daily routine, working knowledge of a wide variety of animals, and professionalism. At least 2 years working as a keeper or similar position required.
