Job Description:This internship will expose students to general aspects of curating a zoological collection. Transportation and housing is NOT provided. This is a non-paid position.QualificationsThe internship is open to exceptional students who are currently pursuing a bachelor’s in science or masters in related fields with a strong emphasis on zoology, biology, or environmental science. Experience working at a zoological institution is preferred but not required. Students must be comfortable working with animals. The Zoo will provide on-the-job training. RequirementsA commitment of three months is required, with a minimum of two days per week totaling no less than eight hours a week. This internship area has a maximum capacity of one student. The position requires exceptional attention to detail, the ability to manage multiple and diverse tasks simultaneously, strong interpersonal skills and a collegial attitude, excellent writing ability, and a high level of professionalism. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Word/Excel is necessary with a typing rate of at least 50 WPM being preferred.DutiesThe intern is primarily responsible for exhibition and collection related research with additional duties as appropriate to specific projects, as well as general administrative support. Research generally includes the natural history, husbandry and environmental requirements of individual species, as well as exhibit design, diet formulation, and multi-species exhibits.The intern will also be offered the opportunity to participate in the general care of the zoo’s education animal collection (diet preparation, feeding and husbandry).
