Binder Park Zoo is the home of over 130 species of animals, naturally exhibited over 200 acres. Animal care interns play an important role in Binder Park Zoo's mission to nurture empathy, understanding, and conservation of nature. Interns will directly assist zookeepers in all aspects of animal husbandry, including: behavioral enrichment, operant conditioning, exhibit maintenance, diet preparation, and vet care. Binder Park Zoo interns will rotate through all seven animal areas of the zoo, and have an opportunity to gain experience with every species in the collection to some extent. In addition to the animal areas, interns will complete a vet hospital and commissary rotation. The Binder Park Zoo animal care internship offers a great opportunity to learn valuable husbandry techniques necessary to become successful in the profession of zookeeping.

Three Internship sessions are offered throughout the year. Summer(May-August), Fall(September-December), and Winter(January-April). Interns typically work 40 hours per week for a minimum of 12 weeks. Internships are experience based and unpaid. Housing and transportation are the responsibility of the intern.
