Assists the Director of Human Resources in the administration of new hire orientations, benefits administration, employee file maintenance, open enrollment and worker’s compensation transactions. Must have working knowledge of Abra’s HRIS system. Must have a strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite for administrative and reporting purposes. This position is responsible for providing HR Services to the Franklin Park Zoo in Boston and the Stone Zoo in Stoneham, MA.

Duties & Responsibilities

Assist the Director of Human Resources as needed in the following areas: recruitment activities in order to fill job openings at Zoo New England. Recruitment activities will include but are not limited to internal postings; job fairs; community activities; mailings; Internet; job banks and newspaper postings. Resume screening which will include but are not limited to maintaining an active resume database for each department, identifying non-qualified and qualified candidates. Facilitate new hire orientation; provide staff with information on company policies and procedures, medical and non-medical benefits. Complete all necessary employment forms to ensure employees are entered on payroll in a timely manner. Maintain and generate files and reports on Abra’s HRIS. Maintain employee files in compliance with state and federal laws. Monitor, order and maintain all HR forms to ensure availability of all HR forms and documents for both the HR Department and ZNE Staff. Attend monthly All Staff Meetings at both Zoos. Must have the ability to provide HR services to both Zoos. Communicate in a professional manner with ZNE Staff and benefits providers.

Minimum Job Requirements

Three years of related experience in Human Resources.

Working knowledge of Benefits Administration.

Certified or engaged in Human Resources Studies in an accredited certificate program.

Working knowledge of HRIS systems.

Experience working in a non-profit environment.

Computer experience is required with proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

Valid driver’s license and good driving record.

Preferred Job Requirements

College degree in Human Resources.

Five years of working experience in Human Resources.

Experience in a non- profit environment.

Working knowledge of Abra’s HRIS.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
