Projects

Conservation, research, and education projects are comprised of a wide variety of activities, including husbandry development, behavioral studies, captive breeding, reintroduction, rehabilitation, habitat restoration, capacity building, fundraising, and collaborative initiatives.

  • Reported projects are both in situ (in the wild) and ex situ (in other settings, such as a zoo, aquarium, research facility, or classroom).
  • Some of the projects reported began in 2006, but most were long-term projects that began in previous years and continued into 2006.
Publications

AZA experts publish their findings each year to share their wealth of knowledge with their colleagues and the rest of the scientific community. In 2006, AZA zoo and aquarium professionals produced a total of 787 publications.

Type of Publication Number
Book chapter 52
Conference Presentations 357

Note: Reported expenditures
Some institutions do not report the amount of money spend on conservation projects. Thus, real expenditures on conservation in 2006 are higher than the total expenditures reported in ARCS.
