How to Join the Conservation Education Committee (CEC)What is the CEC?The AZA Conservation Education Committee (CEC) is composed of 18 members and 11 advisors, whose mission is to accelerate positive conservation action through collaborative efforts of AZA member institutions. Three-year terms begin and expire at the end of the annual conference. The CEC's work is accomplished through bi-annual committee meetings, focused small-group meetings, conference calls, and listservs. What does CEC do?
How do you become a member of the CEC?Write a letter of introduction and interest to the incoming AZA President, with copy to the current CEC chair. Please note that all committee members and advisors are appointed by the incoming AZA President who is under no obligation to consult with committee chairs. In this letter state your interest in joining the CEC and demonstrate your qualifications and experience, your ability to attend committee meetings and conferences, and your passion for conservation education. Make sure that you include information about any work you have done for the CEC, as well as other AZA groups (SSPs, TAGs, etc.). Attach a resume to your letter We should emphasize that it is not necessary to be a CEC member or advisor to accomplish important work with the committee. Many of our current members became active participants and even leaders in CEC projects prior to becoming members. Any such efforts should obviously be reflected in your letter of interest. What are the duties of CEC members?
